Kaushal Silva and Dilruwan Perera shared a defiant century stand to help Sri Lanka A fight back from a sticky 138 for 5 to end the first day at 330 for 8 in their four-day match against Zimbabwe Select in Harare.

Silva, who scored an unbeaten 122 in the game against Zimbabwe Provinces, continued his good form scoring 63 while Perera, who made his ODI debut against England on Saturday, top scored with 75.

Zimbabwe started the day well, with Mahela Udawatte being caught behind off Christopher Mpofu. However, the Sri Lankans forged a 119-run stand for the second wicket before Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya took three quick wickets. Tawanda Mupariwa also chipped in, dismissing Malina Warnapura, who made 71, before Silva and Perera salvaged the situation for the Sri Lankans.

There was another mini-collapse as three wickets fell for 11 but a stubborn unbeaten 41-run stand between Rangana Herath and Nuwan Kulasekara for the ninth wicket frustrated Zimbabwe. Utseya and Mpofu were the most effective bowlers on display taking three wickets each.
