Richard Ngarava first received global attention at the Under-19 World Cup in 2016, when he, the last man for Zimbabwe, was run-out backing up at the non-striker's end by Keemo Paul to send West Indies into the quarter-finals.

Over time, Ngarava has become one of the mainstays of the Zimbabwe bowling unit. Well-built and standing at over six feet, the left-arm fast bowler has the ability to extract pace and lift from the flattest of decks. It did not take long for him to break into the Zimbabwe senior team - he made his ODI debut in a five-match series against Afghanistan in February 2017 in Harare where he picked at least one wicket in each of the five games.

Ngarava then made his first-class debut for Rising Stars in October 2017 and the following year was named in Zimbabwe's Test squad against Bangladesh. He was, however, later ruled out because of a groin injury. Ngarava made his T20I debut against Singapore in September 2019 where he returned 2 for 48. He then got his Test cap in April 2021 against Pakistan in Harare.

In a T20I against Ireland in 2021, Ngarava defended five runs off the final over to give Zimbabwe an unlikely three-run win. In January 2024, he picked his first and only five-for of his international career so far - 5 for 32 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

In 2023, Ngarava was signed up by Galle Titans (now Galle Marvels) in the Lanka Premier League, where he picked three wickets in five matches. He was also part of Sylhet Strikers in Bangladesh Premier League 2024 and was then part of the Dubai Capitals squad for the second season of ILT20 as a replacement for Nuwan Thushara.
