The BAC (British Aircraft Corporation) ground at Byfleet was opened during the Great War as the works venue for the nearby Vickers Armstrong factory. A factory cricket side was established in 1920 and a new pavilion opened in 1951 to accommodate a thriving general sports club. In 1970 Surrey played a John Player League match against Warwickshire which attracted a crowd of 5000, and Surrey kept coming until 1979. The end came when the M25 was built right through the grounds and in 1988 the factory was sold.
