Despite being one of the most stylish batters of his generation, Marshall Ayub played only three Tests for Bangladesh.
He was born and brought up in old Dhaka, where his uncle Yaqub, a local coach, taught him the basics at the famed Bangladesh math (field). He started as an allrounder who batted in the middle and bowled legspin. He broke into the scene scoring 400-plus runs for Dhaka Division in their title-winning NCL (National Cricket League) season in 2026-07. A knee injury, however, made him cut down on his bowling.
Marshall got into the Bangladesh team after a strong 2012-13 season when he scored more than 1000 runs in first-class cricket. He made his Test debut against New Zealand during the home series, but besides a tidy 41, he didn't score much. He continued to bat strongly in domestic cricket, particularly in first-class cricket where he made 959 runs in the 2015-16 season. But he never got a second chance.
