Bangladesh 207 (Hridoy 51, Mahidul 46, Seales 3-48) vs West Indies
Bangladesh stumbled to 207 runs in 49.4 overs in the first ODI against West Indies in Dhaka. Bangladesh showed signs of improvement though they have now failed to bat out 50 overs in seven consecutive ODIs.
Towhid Hridoy scored a painstaking half-century, while debutant Mahidul Islam made 46. Jayden Seales took three wickets, while Roston Chase and Justin Greaves picked up two each. They kept Bangladesh's run rate in check on an unusually dark Dhaka pitch where the ball tended to stick in the surface. There was some spin, though the full extent of the nature of the pitch will be seen in the West Indies' innings.
Bangladesh lost two wickets inside the first three overs when Romario Shepherd removed Saif Hassan with a nip-backer that struck him plumb in front. Seales then removed Soumya Sarkar in the next over, caught at point off a soft shot.
Hridoy and Shanto had to stave off a batting collapse, so they adopted a defensive approach. Both batters struck two fours each in the powerplay before going eleven overs without hitting a boundary. They both hit one boundary each off Gudakesh Motie in the 22nd over before Shanto was trapped lbw by Khary Pierre for 32. He had struck three fours in his 63-ball knock.
Debutant Mahidul batted with similar caution, steadily carrying Bangladesh into the latter part of the innings. Hridoy, meanwhile, reached his half-century off 87 balls before Greaves had him caught behind for 51 off 90 balls.
When Mahidul struck his first boundary, it was Bangladesh's third in more than 25 overs. Another inside edge brought him a second boundary as Mehidy and Mahidul began to pick up the pace. Mehidy hit Seales for consecutive fours in the 42nd over - neither was convincing, though.
Chase removed both batters in the space of two overs. First, he had Mehidy caught at deep fine leg, where Greaves took an excellent catch. Then, Mahidul's maiden ODI knock ended on 46 when he was clean bowled by Chase.
Rishad Hossain struck a couple of sixes during his 13-ball 26 to push Bangladesh towards the 200-run mark, but Seales' yorker ended his stay. Seales then had Taskin Ahmed caught in the covers off the next ball. The innings ended with Tanvir Islam hitting a six before Mustafizur was run-out with two balls to spare.
