Matt Dunn, a genuinely quick seamer who came through Surrey's youth system, made an England Lions debut in 2014 but has seen his career progression slowed due to a lack of consistency and a series of injuries.

A former England Under-19s player, Dunn made his county debut as a 19-year-old in 2011, starring with 5 for 56 to help Surrey to a seven-wicket win against Derbyshire, but he had to wait another three years for a decent run in the side. Dunn has the precious ability to harass batsman on docile wickets: he has pace, a strong muscular action, a dangerous bouncer and a devastating yorker. He was Surrey's leading first-class wicket-taker in 2014, with 47, though his performances waned as the season went on. While he is a tremendous prospect, Dunn is hampered by a lack of accuracy: he leaked 3.87 runs an over in first-class cricket in 2014.

After a decent 2015, two Championship games were all he managed across 2016 and 2017 as injuries hampered his progress, and despite flashes of brilliance in the next two years - he ran through Somerset with 5 for 43 at Guildford in 2019 - persistent fitness issues continued to dog him.

Dunn was born in Egham in Surrey, but his father was born in Ireland, opening up the possibility of playing for them. It is something that Ireland are keen to pursue, but Dunn insists that his ultimate ambition was to play for England.
