Match referees will henceforth submit their views on umpiring decisions and the performance of umpires in the report to the
International Cricket Council (ICC).
At the conclusion of the two-day meeting for match referees on
Saturday November 9, at Mumbai, ICC executive secretary Dave
Richards told newsmen that there was a call from the members that
only the best umpires from the neutral panel should be assigned
as independent umpires.
The referees will now observe video replays of close decisions
just like third umpires before drawing their own conclusions.
Issues pertaining to crowd misbehaviour at certain venues and the
conduct of players were on the agenda of the meeting, the first
of its kind by the game`s ruling body but neither Sir Clyde Walcott, the ICC Chairman nor Richards was willing to disclose what
transpired.
``We will report the matter to the respective Boards`` they said.
