India who figured in two back-to-back Test series with Sri Lanka
last year, will return for another full quota of Tests in
January 1999.
Cricket Board sources said that India had agreed to play three
Tests and three one-day internationals and, also stay back for a
proposed three-nation one-day tournament to be held in Colombo.
If the one-day tournament comes through, then India will be in
Sri Lanka till March.
Sri Lanka will also participate in a three-nation one-day
tournament in Pakistan shortly afterwards in March-April which
will also feature South Africa, before they go to England to
defend the World Cup in May.
LANKA'S INDEPENDENCE CUP
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board's ExCo has decided that Sri Lanka's
Independence Cup will feature only three countries.
The participating countries are Sri Lanka, India and New
Zealand.
The Cricket Board was looking at the possibility of staging a
quadrangular tournament, but have rejected the idea on the
grounds that a triangular would bring in a bigger revenue.
The tournament will be held in June this year, following the
series of three Tests and three one-day internationals with New
Zealand, who are due here on May 15.
