Clive Lloyd is faulting all the officials for the pandemonium
that broke out in Wednesday's frenetic finish to the 5th Cable &
Wireless Limited-Overs International between West Indies and
Australia.
Lloyd, the West Indies manager, targeted police, security
officials, and scoreboard attendants among those to contribute
to the confusion.
"All the officials have got to be blamed, the whole lot. The
place was just packed. It was total chaos and I'm very
disappointed with the Guyanese," he told WEEKENDSPORT yesterday.
"It's lovely to see so many people watching the game and
enthusiastic, but when it's going to get to a stage when people
are going to get injured, it's unfortunate."
Lloyd and Australian captain Steve Waugh agreed that security
needed to be beefed up in light of frequent invasions at
Caribbean grounds these days.
Lloyd raised the possibility of erecting fences; Waugh touched
on the presence of dogs, as is the case in South Africa and both
were in favour of some sort of legislation that could lead to
fines or ejections.
"We cannot continue in this manner. We don't know who is coming
out there, the fella might be full of drinks," Lloyd said.
"The only thing to do is to have the correct protection and some
law has got to be made concerning running on the ground."
