Not good enough. I had quite a few opportunities to perform and I didn't take them. I'd love to do it all again if given the chance.

What has been the highlight of your career?
My Test debut in Cape Town has to be up there. The County Championship win in 2012 was pretty special too, as was winning the MVP award in 2014. It showed that I turned up and performed consistently in every game. But I'd have to say being named one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year topped them all. That was a fantastic honour in a long career without many major, major highlights.

Where is your first Test cap?
My old man's got it. I've only kept a few things and am not a big hoarder. My dad's a massive fan of mine, so it's only right that it's at his.

Which of your team-mates has the worst taste in music?
Sam Hain. He was born in 1995 and has never heard a lot of the older stuff.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?
Big Boyd Rankin. He's a tall bloke who takes up a lot of space. I reckon I'd start to feel a bit claustrophobic in there.

And who is the messiest in the dressing room?
Sam Hain. He's young and learning his trade and he hasn't got his mum around to sort his kit.

You are stuck on a desert island. What three items would you bring?
My 60-degree wedge, a golf ball and some Guinness.

Who is the most superstitious team-mate you have ever had?
Jonathan Trott. We all know about how long he takes to face up digging his trademark Trotty trench.

Who is the biggest stats geek you know?
I don't know about stats geeks but Ian Bell is good with his stats. He seems to know everyone's averages, which suggests he's on Cricinfo quite a lot!

If I gave you six balls to bowl at one stump, how many would times would you hit?
None! It depends what day and mood I'm in, actually. If I'm in a good rhythm I reckon I could hit three. If it was a bit cold I'd struggle.

What one piece of advice would you give to a young spinner?
Practise, practise, practise.

Which young player have you seen who is destined for big things?
I don't want to keep saying his name but Sam Hain. He's got some serious talent with the bat. He's young, keen and hungry and could go a long way.

What has been the best ball you have ever bowled?
I bowled an absolute jaffa to Gary Ballance at Edgbaston in 2013. We just couldn't seem to get rid of him so Tim Ambrose told me to go over the wicket and try and use the rough. I pitched one outside leg stump and it clipped the top of off. I don't think I'll bowl another like that.

Which batsman do you hate bowling to?
Jeez, there are quite a few. I'll go with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. It was never easy bowling against those two.

Who is the laziest trainer?
Easy one - me.

Who is the best captain you've ever played under?
Stephen Fleming. I was young and impressionable when I came into the New Zealand side and it was incredible to play under a man who led from the front like he did.

Who is the best English spinner playing county cricket?
Moeen Ali has got a lot of tools in all three formats of the game. Adil Rashid is a class act with the white ball. There are four or five others playing regularly who are all at a similar level.

What is the one rule in cricket you'd love to change?
That you could be given out lbw even if it hits outside the line of off stump. It gives umpires an easy way out.
