Mighty Mohammedan Sporting Club accepted their second defeat handed over by Kalabagan Krira Chakra (KCC) in a nail-biting affair in BNS today. The Dhanmondi based club, who started the league poorly, made the biggest upset when they won the match by 4 wickets.
In response to Mohammedan's challenging 255 all out, KCC lost two early wickets. But their opener Rafiqul Islam notched up a brilliant 88 off just 95 deliveries and put up a 104-run stand in the second wicket with Ziaur Rahman and made a good recovery. Ziaur made 50 before Mohammedan's Pakistani recruit Taufiq Umar induced an edge to wicket keeper Anwar Hossain. After that, all rounder Mushfiqur Rahman fired 41 and Nasirul Alam slammed 29, which took KCC off to their success.
The morning was reserved for Mohammedan's left-handed Taufiq Umar who made a sparkling mark with the bat. The Pakistani slashed 7 fours and 4 massive sixes to score off his 134 facing 148 deliveries. He and Ehsanul Haq built a 126-run partnership in the opening stand. Ehsanul departed on 36 and the rest of the order failed to cash in on the first wicket total. They all fell cheaply (Four Run outs) to the intrigues of the Kalabagan Bowlers, who were dealing the Mohammedan batsmen pretty cleverly. Mohammedan amassed 255 all out.
Rafiqul Islam was rightly adjudged for the man-of-the-match for his scintillating knock.
