Scotland booked their place in the semi-finals of the Intercontinental Cup after beating Ireland by eight wickets at Clontarf in Dublin. However, the rain nearly scuppered Scotland's of making the trip to Dubai in November, but after play resumed shortly after 5pm, Fraser Watts and Douglas Lockhart completed the 87 runs needed for victory.
While Scotland had cause to celebrate, it was a disappointing blow to Ireland, who only needed a draw to progress to the semis. However, the rain couldn't save them as Watts roared to an impressive 118 not out.
Watts and Lockart, who came together with Scotland wobbling at 28 for 2 in pursuit of 205, put on an unbroken stand of 178. Once play resumed in the evening, it took the pair less than an hour to wrap up the win. Scotland are the first team to make the semi-finals of the trophy.
