An elbow injury has forced Dougie Brown to withdraw from representing his native Scotland in the ICC Intercontinental Cup finals. It has been an unlucky few weeks for Brown, who had not been made the final seven-man England squad for the Hong Kong sixes, which he helped them win last year.
Brown, who celebrated his 35th birthday last week, will be replaced in Scotland's squad by Dewald Nel, who is currently playing grade cricket in Brisbane.
"It is obviously a blow to lose our most experienced player," said Craig Wright, Scotland's captain, "but we have been hearing very good reports about the form of Dewald in Australia and we have more than enough quality throughout the squad to perform well in these matches."
Their squad includes Durham's Gavin Hamilton, who toured South Africa with England in 1999-2000, and John Blain, who has represented Northamptonshire and had the best strike-rate in the 1999 World Cup.
