Mann's Men: The MCC Team in South Africa 1922-23 - Brian Bassano<
140pp, available in paperback for £18 from JW McKenzie, 12 Stoneleigh Park Rd, Ewell, Epsom, Surrey, KT19 0QT
Brian Bassano was one of South Africa's most authoritative cricket historians until his death in 2001. This, his final book, uses contemporary reports to recount the 1922-23 MCC tour to South Africa, captained by Frank Mann, and is available to a British audience for the first time.
Caught in Time: Malden Wanderers Cricket Club 1879-2004 - Michael Burns
86pp, available in paperback for £10 from Chris Davies, 45 Cromwell Avenue, New Malden, Surrey, KT3 6DN
A well presented picture-led history of the Surrey Championship side where Alec Stewart started his long career. It has been published to coincide with the club's 125th birthday.
Village Idiots: An Affair with English Cricket - Tim Wade Trafford
140pp, available in paperback for £9.60
Australian Tim Wade offers an outside-in view of English cricket and traditions, learnt through three years playing for Turville Park near Henley-on-Thames. Wade has a pretty shrewd grasp of English neuroses and obsessions, but many of the jokes fail to hit the mark.
Indelible Memories: Playingfields and Battlefields - Tony Pawson
252pp, available in hardback for £12 + £3 p&p from Hilarie Pawson, Manor House, Chilcomb, Winchester, Hampshire, S021 1HR
For many years the Observer's cricket correspondent, Pawson has a great deal to say on cricket. Here though the game receives just one chapter, making way for Pawson's memories - brilliantly brought to life - of fighting in Tunisia and Italy in World War II.
