Sri Lanka v Pakistan 2000

At Galle, July 5

15-Apr-2001
At Galle, July 5. Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: K. Sangakkara.
Pakistan, put in to bat after the match was reduced to 45 overs a side because of early rain, floundered to 53 for six. They recovered through a classy 83 off 118 balls from Inzamam-ul-Haq, who resumed after being hit in the groin and held the innings together. Zoysa, Sri Lanka's left-arm fast bowler, recorded career-best international figures. A target of 165 never troubled the Sri Lankans, even after losing two early wickets to Waqar Younis - who then succumbed to cramp. Atapattu adopted the anchor role, making 62 in 92 balls, and the match was won with seven overs in hand. Two left-armers, Vaas and Zoysa, opened the bowling for Sri Lanka and two left-handers, Jayasuriya and Gunawardene, opened the batting.
Man of the Match: D. N. T. Zoysa.
