Bangladesh v Kenya

At Johannesburg, March 1, 2003

15-Apr-2004
At Johannesburg, March 1, 2003. Kenya won by 32 runs. Toss: Kenya.
Joy was unconfined as Kenya celebrated qualification for the Super Six, thanks largely to an outstanding all-round contribution from Odumbe. First, his unbeaten 52 from 46 balls - building on the foundations laid carefully by Shah and Patel - gave the Kenyans a competitive total. Then he claimed four for 38 to undermine Bangladesh's middle order, secure the match award and trigger his team's victory dance. If delight was the prevailing emotion for Kenya and most of the spectators in the crowd, it was another day of despair for Bangladesh, who had lost all of their last 30 completed one-day internationals. Despite testing spells from Manjurul Islam and Tapash Baisya with the new ball, they let their opponents off the hook, dropping at least three catches, and later slipped badly from 151 for five when, with 12 overs left, victory should have been within their grasp. Fittingly, it fell to Tikolo, the captain, to capture the last wicket as Kenya recorded their sixth success in seven games against Bangladesh, this far and away the most significant.
Man of the Match: M. O. Odumbe. Attendance: 17,897.
