Warwickshire surged to a two-day victory at Stratford as 18 wickets tumbled in the day. It is a far cry from the run-filled fixture here last season when only 22 fell in four days. The architect of Warwickshire's win was Heath Streak, who ran through Hampshire's second innings with 6 for 31, his best figures of the season. He grabbed the crucial wicket of Kevin Pietersen, caught by Jonathan Trott for a duck, as Hampshire crumbled to 34 for 5. Michael Brown and Sean Ervine tried to turn the innings around but Streak returned to mop up the tail and leave Warwickshire with the simple task of chasing 44. Nick Knight wasted no time, smashing 39 from 21 balls. Hampshire's capitulation was surprising after a morning session that involved a Shane Warne fightback. He claimed 6 for 88 and ran through Warwickshire's lower order as they fell from 140 for 1 to 265 all out. But that was just the prelude to Hampshire's own demise, and that one decided the match.

Clarke anchored Surrey's reply to Kent's below-par 262 with his 188-ball innings. His major stand was 107 with Ali Brown, who hit 56, and Clarke also added 99 with Jonathan Batty. However, the Surrey innings was kept in check by Min Patel, who sent down 38 overs of impressive left-arm spin, claiming 6 for 124. Darren Stevens' performance was a bonus for Kent as he chipped in with three wickets with his part-time medium-pace. Kent's battling performance lost some of the gloss when David Fulton fell late in the day to Mohammad Akram, and a crucial third day awaits.
