Pakistan v New Zealand

15-Apr-2004

At Rawalpindi, December 5, 2003 (day/night). Pakistan won by seven wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
After the match, Chris Cairns said his team had been hammered, and he was spot-on. New Zealand were second best from the moment Shoaib Akhtar struck with the fifth ball of the day and, though Cairns tried his best, his side never had enough runs to bowl at on an excellent pitch. Two needless run-outs made matters worse and, with Pakistan 134 for nought, they looked oddson to face the ignominy of a ten-wicket defeat. Yasir Hameed prevented that embarrassment, driving carelessly to long-on. New Zealand only managed to stretch Pakistan's chase into the 42nd over because Inzamam decided to promote his middle-order players and give them some time at the crease.
Man of the Match: Imran Farhat.
