Lara apologises for indiscretion

Lara warned by match referee for indiscreet behaviour

04-Feb-2006
Brian Lara offered a public apology for an ill-advised incident to spectators attending the second day of the Carib Beer Series match between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago at the Carlton Sports Club.
Lara, upset after being given out to a disputed catch at cover for 54 off Ian Bradshaw in T&T's first innings, knocked over a chair when he entered the pavilion on Thursday's opening day.
"I just want to apologise publicly to everyone involved for my behaviour yesterday," he said over the public address system, just before he took the field. "I'm very sorry about that."
The incident was seen by close to 200 spectators packed into the clubhouse of the Carlton Sports Club, which is hosting its first regional first-class match. Carlyle Carter, the match referee admitted he was not pleased about the incident, but spoke to the T&T management, and would not take further action.
"On his dismissal, on entering the pavilion, he was a bit indiscreet in his behaviour," he said. "As a result of that, I had a chat with him in the presence of the captain and the manager of the T&T team, and I explained to him what I thought was an indiscretion. He apologised for what had happened. As far as I was concerned, that was the end of the matter."
