Bangladesh v New Zealand

The New Zealanders in Bangladesh, 2004-05

Utpal Shuvro
15-Apr-2005
At Chittagong, November 2, 2004. New Zealand won by 138 runs. Toss: New Zealand. One-day international debut: P. G. Fulton.
Not for the first time, Cairns changed the course of the match with some powerful hitting. New Zealand had stuttered to 94 for five when he strode to the crease in the 24th over. Cairns was content to accumulate quietly at first, but accelerated to reach his half-century from 76 balls, with two sixes and a solitary four. Then, with the end of the innings in sight, he hit a further three sixes before he was last out, dismissed by 17-year-old seamer Nazmul Hossain. His 74 came from 83 deliveries. Bangladesh lost Aftab Ahmed to the third ball of the innings, and thereafter only captain Habibul Bashar, restored to the side after missing the Test series through injury, batted with any confidence. Bangladesh's 86 was their fourth-lowest one-day score. Mills claimed four wickets in his opening spell to finish with four for 14.
Man of the Match: C. L. Cairns.
