Aaron Redmond's allround performance sealed a comprehensive 46-run win for Otago against Central Districts in their Twenty20 match at Napier. Redmond top-scored with 59 in Otago's score of 167 and scalped four wickets with his legbreaks as Central Districts folded up for 121.
Redmond justified captain Craig Cumming's decision to bat first, taking the attack to the bowlers after Cumming fell early. He added a quickfire 79 in just over six overs with wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins (24), laying the platform for a competitive score. Ewen Thompson, the left-arm seamer, registered the best bowling figures of the competition so far, picking up five wickets for 32 runs.
Central Districts struggled in their reply, with the exception of Jamie How, who scored 45. Lack of meaningful partnerships led to their downfall, the most productive one being 25 between How and Mathew Sinclair. Redmond ran through the lower order, finishing with figures of 4 for 24.
