Michael Parlane smashed 132 off 116 balls to lead Wellington to a comfortable four-wicket victory against Central Districts at Basin Reserve . After being asked to bat, Central scored 253 for 7 Jam, thanks largely to Jamie How's 93 and half-centuries by Grey Hay and Bevan Griggs. Though no other batsman passed 30 for Wellington, Parlane's century was enough for Wellington to reach the target with 50 balls to spare.
Otago reached their target of 233 with five wickets in hand against Canterbury at Dunedin. Otago's bowlers did well to restrict Canterbury to 232 for 6 after winning the toss. Michael Papps top-scored with 62 and Carl Frauenstein smacked 48 off 29. After an opening stand of 46, Otago lost three wickets for 44 runs during the chase. Neil Broom steadied the innings with 55 and Gareth Hopkins struck 46 off 28 balls to take Otago home.
James Marshall's unbeaten 61 steered Northern Districts to a four-wicket victory against Auckland at Seddon Park. Northern's target was reduced from 217 to 199 off 42 overs because of rain. Daryl Tuffey supported Marshall with 32 not out as they achieved the victory with four balls to spare. Scott Styris was Auckland's best bowler with 4 for 38. Earlier, Lou Vincent struck a half-century for Auckland but they lost wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 216 for 8. Ian Bulter and Graeme Aldridge took three wickets apiece.
