Only six overs were possible on the second of Bangladesh's warm-up match before heavy showers engulfed the Uyanwatta Cricket Stadium. Play was called off at 1:45 pm local time after it began 90 minutes later than the scheduled start at 10:00 am. The third day will begin 30 minutes ahead of schedule, but there is a forecast of rain and thundershower.

In the 36 minutes of cricket possible on the second morning, the home side were bowled out for 410 runs, adding 12 to their overnight total. Kasun Madushanka was caught behind off Elias Sunny to give the left-arm spinner his third wicket. Kithuruwan Vithanage remained unbeaten on 168 off 165 balls with 17 boundaries and three sixes.

Bangladesh sent out Jahurul Islam and Anamul Haque before as the dark clouds gathered from the southeastern side of the ground. Jahurul hit a sweetly-timed flick off Madushanka, but just 2.4 overs were possible. The two openers will be eying time in the middle as both could be picked in the absence of Shahriar Nafees, Bangladesh's No.3 in the last series.

If weather interferes on the third day, it would make it difficult for Bangladesh to work out the rest of batting order. Marshall Ayub was the 12th man in Matara and is likely to stay on the bench during the first Test. Some batting practice here would have given a better idea to Mushfiqur Rahim ahead of the Test. But if they lose the third day as well, it could come down to taking a call between Mohammad Ashraful and Mominul Haque, with the former Bangladesh captain's experience likely to work in his favour.

Bangladesh last played a Test match in December, at home against West Indies. Some of the players have played first-class cricket this season and some played in the BCL final just before leaving for Sri Lanka. But practice in Matara is crucial as this is the only tour game before the first Test that starts on March 8.
