2000 version of the world famous Chiang Mai Sixes

Two officially sanctioned entries from the Marylebone Cricket Club head a truly international field for the 2000 version of the world famous Chiang Mai Sixes.

Teams from Australia, Greece, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and other teams from the United Kingdom, which will be held on April 4-10, will join them.

The line ups includes newcomers, Javea CC (Spain), Kirby Mazleard (Yorkshire), Lamma CC (Hong Kong), Combined Zuoz/CERN team (Switzerland) as well as past entrants Drifters (England), Perth Postels (Australia), Bangkok Postels (Thailand), Darwin Waratahs (Northern Territory, Australia), Wombats (Darjeeling, United Arab Emirates), IOS (Greece), Kiwi Taverners and Silver State (Malaysia).

The tournament is held at the Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club and cricket has been played there since 1898 i.e. the 1998 tournament celebrated the club's Centenary year. The old turf wicket was used for the first 10 years until in 1998 an "Astro-turf" wicket was laid.

In the past, the event has featured big names such as Clive Rice, Dennis Lillee, Simon Doull, Ian Harvey and present Australian Test player, Damien Fleming.

One of the key officials of the Sixes is Graeme Monaghan, the inventor of Indoor Cricket, and was also behind the infamous Dennis Lillee aluminium bat saga.

Lillee's act of taking an aluminium bat on to a Test field forced cricket's legislators to change the rules and decree that a bat must be made of timber.
