As part of the ongoing initiative to support cricket development in the ICC's East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Region, the ICC East Asia-Pacific Regional office, together with the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and Cricket Victoria will once again have a collection point for unwanted cricket gear on days one, two and three of the MCG Boxing Day Test.

The growth of cricket within ICC EAP regional countries has reached enormous proportions in recent years. This has however created large increases in the demand for cricket equipment that both the regional ICC office and the respective regional countries cannot keep up with.

The inaugural equipment drive, held during the 2004 Boxing Day Test, saw over 500 items donated (including old bats, balls, pads and gloves etc.) which were distributed to countries such as Fiji, Cook Islands, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. The 2005 Equipment Drive will have a particular focus on used cricket balls, which are an immediate need for many EAP Member countries.

A collection bin will be located on the grassed area adjacent to the stairs leading up to Gate 6 on days' one, two and three of the Test. The collection area will be clearly identified with a marquee and signage.

So start searching those disused cricket bags, cupboards (and under your bed!) for anything that will help another youngster develop his skills, and ultimately grow the game of cricket.

About ICC East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Development A strategic objective of the ICC is the promotion of cricket as a `global sport'.

The ICC Development Program is tasked with this responsibility, and attempts to achieve this by raising participation rates, standards and the profile of the cricket in the ICC's `emerging' Associate and Affiliate members.

The ICC East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Development office (one of five regional offices under the ICC Development Program) was established in 1999, and since this time, interest in cricket has grown at an impressive rate within the region's 10 member countries.

Over 32,000 people now play cricket in the EAP region, compared with less than 6000 in the year 2000.
