  • It was the 59th meeting between the two sides. Australia has won 34, India 22,while 3 matches were abandoned. It was Australia's fifth consecutive win over India.

  • Umpires Peter Parker and Simon Taufel were officiating in their 24th and 7th match respectively.

  • India's total (100) is the joint fifth lowest by a side winning the toss and electing to bat first after Canada's 45 in 40.3 overs (v England, Manchester,13-06- 1979), Scotland's 68 in 31.3 overs (v West Indies, Leicester,27-05-1999), Pakistan's 71 in 23.4 overs (v West Indies, Brisbane, 09-01-1993), New Zealand's 74 in 29 overs (v Pakistan, Sharjah, 01-05-1990) and Bangladesh's 100 in 41.2 overs (v Kenya, Nairobi Aga, 15-10-1997). Incidentally India's previous such lowest was 125 in 45 overs (v Pakistan, Sharjah,16-04-1999).

  • India also provided the 38th instance of a side getting out for a total of 100 or less.It was the fifth such instance for India. Only Pakistan (7) and SriLanka (6) have recorded a total of 100 or less on more occasions. Incidentally it was the ninth instance when an Australian team has bowled out a side for a total of 100 or less. Australia was earlier at level with West Indies with 8 such instances.

  • Extras (32) top scored in India's innings with Rahul Dravid (22) being the next highest scorer. This provided the 18th instance in ODI history when extras either top -scored or was the equal highest scorer in an innings. It was also the third occasion when this embarrassing record for made for India. The other two occasions came at Toronto - first against Pakistan on 23-09-1996 when extras of 26 top-scored (with Tendulkar's 23 being the next highest scorer) and second against West Indies on 12-09-1999 when 26 extras contributed more than Sunil Joshi's 25.

  • Glenn McGrath completed his 150 wickets by getting rid of Sachin Tendulkar. He became fourth Australian after Shane Warne (214 wickets in 134 matches), Craig McDermott (203 in 138) and Steve Waugh (191 in 279) and 23rd bowler overall to do so. By accomplishing this feat in 104 matches, McGrath became the seventh fastest in terms of least matches taken.

  • The catch of Tendulkar was Gilchrist's 50th dismissal in C&U ODI matches in his 26th match. He became fourth 'keeper to aggregate 50 dismissals in WSC /C&U matches after Ian Healy (122 dismissals in 83 matches), Rodney Marsh (79 in 59) and Jeff Dujon (69 in 54).

  • The catch of Kumble was 100th for Gilchrist as 'keeper in his 79th match. He became third Australian after Ian Healy (194) and Rodney Marsh (120) and eighth 'keeper overall to complete century of catches.

  • Kumble's duck was 13th of career. He thus equalled Javagal Srinath's record of most ducks in a career for India. Srinath had recorded his 13th duck just three days ago against Pakistan.

  • McGrath (10-4-8-4) recorded the most economical figures by an Australian bowler bowling his full quota of ten overs. The previous record was on the name of 'Mick' Malone who conceded 9 runs in his 10 overs against West Indies at Melbourne on 10-01-1982.   • McGrath's figures are now the most economical by any bowler against India. The previous record was jointly held by New Zealand's Ewen Chatfield and Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas who conceded 13 runs off 10 overs at Adelaide on 25-01-1986 and at Mumbai (Wankhede) on 17-05-1997 respectively.

  • McGrath and Symonds provided the fifth instance of two bowlers taking four wickets in the same innings for Australia.The other instances : Gary Cosier (5-18) & Greg Chappell (5-20) v England at Birmingham on 04-06- 1977, Mike Whitney (4-34) & Steve Waugh (4-33) v Sri Lanka at Sydney on 19-01-1988, Glenn McGrath (4-32) & Shane Warne (4-25) v South Africa at Melbourne on 09- 12-1993 and Shane Warne (4-34) & Damien Fleming (4-39) v New Zealand at Sharjah on 16-04-1994.

  • Australia won the match with 23.1 overs (i.e. 139 balls) to spare. It was the third occasion when India lost a match with 20 or more overs yet to be bowled.

  • Andrew Symonds won his second MoM award. Interestingly both his awards came against India.
