Mark Butcher pays tribute in the Guardian.
There are times when batting with Ramps has made me feel a bit inadequate. It can be dreadful to be at the other end when you're out of touch. You watch him and wonder why it all looks so easy.To score like that in this era, when a batsman can expect only about 25 first-class innings a season, well, that's astonishing. His batting in those two years was as good as any I've seen since I've been playing cricket. Every single ball seemed to come off the middle.
I don't think he's matured as a player so much as he has as a man.
