The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) said that it was shocked by the admission today by South African Captain, Hansie Cronje, that he had been dishonest with the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) over his recent activities in India.
The admission, which has seen Cronje withdrawn from the South African team, was unexpected but did not pose a threat to the one day series against South Africa according to ACB Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed.
"Today's announcement came as a shock to the Australian Cricket Board. It was totally unexpected," said Mr Speed.
"This decision in no way affects the up-coming One Day International series against South Africa. I know that Steve Waugh and his team are very focused on winning this series and this announcement will not affect their preparation."
Mr Speed went on to say that he was confident that the relevant authorities would deal with the matter.
"I am confident that the International Cricket Council and the United Cricket Board of South Africa will deal with this matter effectively and expeditiously," said Mr Speed.
