The African XI looked to have no chance after dipping to 87-7, but were given hope by Pollock, playing as a batsman in this series: in his 285th one-day international, he made his first hundred, hitting 19 fours and a six in all, and sharing stands of 67 and 103 with Chigumbura and Odoyo. He had reduced the target to 35 off 14 balls when he finally holed out off Mashrafe bin Mortaza.
