ACU&S Intro Level course in Vienna
Austria has six newly ACU&S Intro Level qualified umpires.
Graham Cooper, the EDP's Umpiring Consultant, visited Vienna over the weekend of 28th February - 2nd March for an intensive umpiring and scoring course, with those in attendance being giving a visual examination and an oral examination, which lead to their gaining the ACU&S Intro Level Exam. The course was organised by Walter Blaschke, Chairman of AUCUS (The Austrian Union of Cricket Umpirers and Scorers), and there was a pleasing distribution of clubs represented.
The course featured a series of PowerPoint presentations and discussions with handouts, with plenty of scope for questions and answers. As a result of the course, which is to be supplemented by an "in the field" exercise during the forthcoming season, the following candidates gained their ACU&S Introductory Level examination:
Michael Bailey, Walter Blaschke, Christian Kamin, Sandeep Khanna, Parmjit Singh and Helmuth Zikuda.
Congratulations to all of them and plans are now being made to have a Level One course, as well as bringing up another crop of umpires to ACU&S Introductory level standard. The qualification will allow successful candidates to stand in the forthcoming ECC Trophy, to be held in Austria in August 2003.
