Adams, 34, spent a short spell at Trent Bridge in 2007 before re-joining the county midway through the 2008 season, and this year claimed 43 wickets at an average of 28.46 and also contributed 300 runs. He will spend the winter playing grade cricket in Sydney.

"Andre has been the pick of our bowlers this season and he's maintained his form when others have struggled," said Nottinghamshire's director of cricket, Mick Newell.

"We need to get the best out of our bowlers and Andre has shown that he is a very important player for us and has the ability to contribute in all competitions.

"He'll feel that he could have done a bit more in one-day matches this season but he will be an important part of our team for at least two more seasons."

Meanwhile, Chris Read has been named the Nottinghamshire Player of the Season at the club's annual dinner at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

Read led the county to a second-place finish in the County Championship with a personal contribution of 1203 runs, including four hundreds and six fifties. He was the only Notts player to reach the 1000-run milestone.
