The Heavy Ball

'The wolves were right behind me, inches certain death!'

Deranged ramblings? We've got those and more in this week's Twitter round-up

Albie Morkel: all around him was horror  AFP

The hero
Matt Prior's son has some very specific demands when they play backyard cricket together.

Loading ...

"Playing cricket with my 3 yr old he wanted to be @StuartBroad8 but I HAD to be @Swannyg66! I did ask if I could by myself but didn't cut it"
@MattPrior13

The gibberish
What's happened to Albie Morkel?

"They guy who spiked me with a pill beware! I'm coming for you! The wolves were right behind me, inches certain death! Then I found my room!"
@albiemorkel

The explanation
AB de Villiers was with Morkel at the time.

"Pls excuse @albiemorkel , took a sleeping pill 45min ago,started muttering something about war & walked 2 his room still talking 2 himself?!"
@ABdeVilliers17

The momentum
As we all know, to win cricket matches you don't need skill, determination, fitness, organisation or anything like that - you need momentum. Who's got the momentum in the ICC World Twenty20? After one match, Farveez Maharoof felt it was Sri Lanka.

"Great way to start our campaign yesterday! Big congrats for both the mendis's! Early momentum Is the key in world cups. #T20WC"
@farveezmaharoof

But if early momentum's important, Stuart Broad's confident:

"Strongest bowling and fielding performance we've had for a while, amazing. Great momentum leading into out 1st WC game on Friday"
@StuartBroad8

They haven't even started yet and they've already got momentum. Jade Dernbach agrees.

"Awesome win from the boys, nice to take some momentum into the 1st wc game on fri. Got a good feeling about this boys are looking sweet."
@Jwd_16

And Luke Wright:

"Happy days! Great to beat Pakistan in these conditions! Bowlers were outstanding! roll on the tournament, hopefully carry momentum forward!"
@lukewright204

That's a fair point. All of this rather assumes that the teams will be able to retain any early momentum. Surely, if anything, you want late momentum in a tournament where the final's at the end.

The change in momentum
James Franklin knows how quickly momentum can be lost.

"Tough road trip to Kandy at the mo, driver of our bus has a heavy foot on both pedals! #slowfaststopfaststop #nottogood"
@jecfranklin

The lesson
Pat Cummins has a new skill.

"Today George Bailey taught me the proper technique to dispense a 'Tic Tac'. #lifechanging #ingenious"
@93Cummins

The nutrition
Today's England cricketer knows the importance of eating well. Yesterday's England cricketer, however…

"Oh well ,just had a great pre fitness meal ... Large well done Bacon buttie wi brown sauce #readytogo #oldschooldiet"
@RyanSidebottom

"Does it get any better than the Wetherby Whaler, large haddock, chips and mushy peas. Oh and a cup of tea. Aye by gum. #yorkshire"
Colly622 (Paul Collingwood )

The breakfast beverage
Lou Vincent is starting early.

"That honey jack daniels tasters at duty free departures at 8:15am does help morning dry throat #hiccup" @louvincent78

What's your philosophy?
Shaun Pollock. Obviously.

"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the the moments that take our breath away!"
@7polly7

Like when you're winded, you mean?

Nando's Watch
Durham's Ben Stokes is feeling peckish.

"Off to the metro with @clarey_11,making a decision on what resturant to take down for lunch is a tough one #starving #probsnandos #rego"
@benstokes38

Don't take it down. Just eat there. Why does an activity as common as eating always have to revolve around destruction?
