And while India still have hopes of winning a series away to South Africa for the first time, the home side will be confident as they have not lost a Test in Cape Town since they were readmitted to the international arena in 1992.

South Africa are 4/7 (1.57) to win this one, while India look overpriced at 5/1 (6.00), mostly due to the strength of their batting line-up, but also because their bowling has been improved by the performance of their seamers.

In that time, they have won 10 times, drawn three times and lost just three. Those three were all to Australia, so they will be looking to turn the screw when play starts on Tuesday morning.

Of the past 10 matches at Newlands, the side bowling first has won five matches, with three wins going to the side batting first.

The pitch looks to be one that suit the bowlers early on, so the toss could be a big factor, while both sides will be hoping their opening batsmen find some form having struggled throughout the series.

Top markets
Jacques Kallis, whose return to the side is a big boost to South Africa's hopes, is 3/1 (4.00) favourite to be the home team's top runscorer.

Graeme Smith, whose 59 in the second innings in Durban masked a shocking run of form, is next at 7/2, while Herschelle Gibbs is 4/1 and AB De Villiers and Ashwell Prince are both 9/2.

For India, Sachin Tendulkar, who looks primed for a big score, is joint favourite at 10/3 (4.33) with his captain Rahul Dravid, who needs a big score himself.

VVS Laxman is 9/2, while Virender Sehwag, whose place is in doubt, is 5/1. Gautam Gambhir, who could replace him, and former skipper Saurav Ganguly, who has done well since returning to the side, are both 6/1.
