De Silva, who scored just 66 runs in five innings against Pakistan, will be replaced by Kumar Sangakkara. Romesh Kaluwitharan is the other notable omission from the squad. Prassana Jayawardena, who keep wicket in the third test at Asgirya Stadium in Kandy, is expected to keep the gloves, although there is an outside chance of Kumar Sangakkara playing as a wicket keeper batsmen.

Young fast bowler, Dilhara Fernando, makes a return to squad having bowled well in the Centenary test match, but then being subsequently dropped. Dinuka Hetterachchi becomes the forth spinner in the 16 man squad. A slow left arm bowler, he has impressed the selectors with his recent form and will have a chance to bowl himself into contention, when he plays for the BCCSL XI against South Africa in the scheduled 2-day practice game, which starts on Sunday.
