Arshad Ayub, the former India offspinner, has become president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association after beating the incumbent G Vinod in the elections on Sunday. Ayub's group swept the polls, winning all the officer-bearers' posts by a big margin.
This was the first election for the president's post since 1964, after which the HCA constitution was amended to automatically make the senior-most vice-president the president. In 2012, another amendment made elections mandatory for the presidency.
Shivlal Yadav, the interim president of the BCCI and an influential player in the HCA, had decided against standing for any post in the elections. "It will be odd for me to even think of contesting having held the highest post in the cricket administration of India," he had told the Hindu last month.
