  • It was Pakistan's 472nd and Sri Lanka's 324th match in ODIs.

  • It was the 81st meeting between these two sides. The record now reads: Pakistan 51, Sri Lanka 27, tied 1, abandoned 2.

  • Umpires SK Bansal and AV Jayaprakash were officiating in their 26th and ninth match respectively.

  • Wasim Akram was playing his 50th match against Sri Lanka. He became third player after Salim Malik and Mohammad Azharuddin (53 each) to do so.

  • The wicket of Saeed Anwar was 17th for Sanath Jayasuriya in Asia Cup matches. He now holds the record of capturing most wickets in Asia Cup alongwith Pakistan's Abdul Qadir.

  • Moin Khan scored his eighth fifty in his 176th match. He reached his fifty off just 30 balls, which is the joint fourth fastest fifty in the final of a tournament. The details:

    Note: Cairns' and Tendulkar's (on 11-01-1998) performances came in the second and first final of the best of the three finals respectively.

  • Moin's fifty is also the joint fifth fastest by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. Australia's Wayne Philips holds the record of completing fifty in least number of balls by a wicketkeeper taking only 26 balls to do so during his knock of 53 against New Zealand at Wellington on 26-03-1986.   • Marvan Atapattu scored his fourth hundred in his 96th match. He thus equalled Roshan Mahanama's and Arjuna Ranatunga's tally of hundreds for Sri Lanka. Now only Aravinda DeSilva (11) and Sanath Jayasuriya (8) have scored more ODI hundreds for Sri Lanka than Atapattu.

  • Marvan Atapattu on 63,completed his 3000 runs in ODIs. He was playing his 96th match and 92nd match. Atapattu became seventh Sri Lankan and 62nd batsman in ODI history to do so.

  • Atapattu now has a amazing run in ODIs. His last seven innings in ODIs read as 119*,57,77,41*,42,62 and 100.

  • Kaluwitharana was getting out without scoring for the 19th time in his 139th match - most for Sri Lanka. He was previously at level with Arjuna Ranatunga. Having equalled Pakistan's Salim Malik's tally of ducks, Kaluwitharana is now inching towards another Pakistan's Wasim Akram's record of most ducks in a career. Wasim has 23 ducks from 306 matches on his name.

  • The duck was Muralitharan's seventh against Pakistan. He has now achieved the dubious distinction of aggregating most ducks in a career against Pakistan alongwith West Indian Gus Logie.

  • Pakistan was winning Asia Cup for the first time. Infact it was the first occasion when Pakistan was playing in the Asia Cup final. Pakistan has now won all major ODI tournaments.

  • The victory was Pakistan's 18th title win in ODIs (in tournaments consisting of three or more teams). Pakistan has now equalled Australia's tally of tournament wins in ODIs (excluding 1994-95 Benson & Hedges WSC).

  • At the end of the tournament:

    • Pakistan's overall ODI record: played 472, won 246, lost 210, tied 6 and abandoned 10.

    Sri Lanka's overall ODI record: played 324, won 123, lost 185, tied 2 and abandoned 14.

    India's overall ODI record: played 445, won 199, lost 225, tied 3 and abandoned 18.

    Bangladesh's overall ODI record: played 40, won 3, lost 37.
