  • It was Pakistan's 471st and Sri Lanka's 323rd match in ODIs.

  • It was the 80th meeting between these two sides. The record now reads: Pakistan 50, Sri Lanka 27, tied 1, abandoned 2.

  • Umpires S Venkataraghavan and AV Jayaprakash were officiating in their 30th and eighth match respectively.

  • Aravinda De Silva got run-out for the 25th time in his career. He became the third Sri Lankan after Arjuna Ranatunga (30) and Asanka Gurusinha (27) and the ninth batsman in ODIs to get out in this fashion on 25 or more occasions in a career.

  • Incidentally De Silva was run-out for the 11th time in 64 innings against Pakistan, which is the ODI record of most run-out dismissals by a batsman against any country.

  • The catch of Mahela Jayawerdene was the 235th dismissal for Moin Khan in his 175th match. He has now made dismissals more than any other player in ODIs. Moin surpassed Australia's Ian Healy's tally of 234 dismissals from 168 matches.

  • Five batsmen were run-out in Sri Lankan innings, which equalled the existing world record of most run-outs in an innings. The details :

  • Muttiah Muralitharan was dismissed without scoring for the 11th time in his career and sixth time against Pakistan. He now holds the dubious distinction of getting most ducks against Pakistan for Sri Lanka. Murali was previously at level with Pramodya Wickremasinghe, Chaminda Vaas and Sanath Jayasuriya with five ducks.

  • Muralitharan also equalled India's Javagal Srinath's tally of six ducks against Pakistan. Now only West Indian Gus Logie with seven ducks from 49 matches is ahead of Muralitharan.

  • Muralitharan (10-2-18-0) recorded the second most economical figures by a Sri Lankan against Pakistan. Only Kumara Dharmasena (10-3-16-3 at Sharjah on 17 October 1995) had returned better figures than Muralitharan in match for Sri Lanka.

  • Jayasuriya has now taken 16 wickets in 14 Asia Cup matches, which takes him past India's Kapil Dev's and Sri Lanka's Ravi Ratnayeke's tally of 15 wickets. Now only Pakistan's Abdul Qadir with 17 wickets in 8 matches is ahead of Jayasuriya.

  • Yousuf Youhana became a victim of `nervous nineties' for the second time in his career. His other score in nineties (92) was against Australia at Karachi on 06-11-1998

  • The victory was Pakistan's first over Sri Lanka in last four meetings. The defeat was Sri Lanka's first in their last six matches.

  • The Man of Match award was the fifth for Yousuf Youhana in his career and second in successive matches.
