Hayden's 22nd Test century helped Australia recover from the loss of Justin Langer for a duck as they finished the day on 331-6, with Gilchrist and Shane Warne the not-out batsman. Ricky Ponting's winning of the toss could also prove crucial as the Sydney pitch always takes spin and the Australian side has Warne and Stuart MacGill to bowl last on it.
Three of the six wickets in the day fell to spin, with Muttiah Muralitharan getting two of them and Daniel Vettori the other, but Australia were cut by bet365 at the end of the day's play, and look in a strong position. bet365 make them a 5/6 (1.83) chance to get 440 or more, while it's the same price that they are dismissed for below that total.
It's 5/6 (1.83) that Gilchrist makes it to more than 133, and the same price that he gets out before then, while for Warne, it's the same price for him to get 26 or more. And not surprisingly, they make Warne the 1/2 (1.50) favourite to be the next man out, while Gilchrist is 6/4 (2.50).
