Australia planning ahead for possible World Cup victory

It's called "contingency planning", but should Australia win the CricInfo Women's World Cup on Saturday they'll be feted during the lunch break of the Australia-West Indies fourth Test on Boxing Day in Melbourne.

Australian Cricket Board media officer Brian Murgatroyd was at pains to say the ACB was not being presumptive about the outcome of Saturday's CricInfo Women's World Cup final.

"If they do win we want to give them due recognition. It would be a terrific fillip for the women's game if they were able to be acknowledged by a crowd of around 70,000.

"So if they win they will get a cavalcade and will be the guests of the Australian Cricket Board during the day.

"In order to take advantage of that possibility we have to have contingency plans," he said.

Tournament organiser Tim Murdoch said New Zealand had no plans for a parade on Boxing Day if they won the tournament.

"That's not really our style.

"Though we may look at doing something later on, perhaps after the State Insurance Cup," he said.
