†AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND 1985-86

At Perth, January 19

At Perth, January 19. Australia won by four wickets. The same pitch that was used for the low-scoring match the previous day again gave the seam bowlers exaggerated help, but this time New Zealand lost the toss and batted before a capacity crowd. Batting was always difficult against the fast, well-directed Australian bowling, although Jeff Crowe was helped by an extraordinary mixture of full tosses and long-hops from Trimble. Marsh and Border took Australia to 61 from 22 overs, and though there was a flutter of interest when Border (58 from 104 balls) was fifth out, Phillips (two 6s and three 4s) put Australia ahead with 29 balls to spare.
