Hampshire all rounder Jon Ayling has been forced to retire because of a persistent knee injury.
Ayling 26 damaged the knee in a collision with Sussex opening batsman David Smith in a pre season friendly in 1989 and missed the whole of the following summer.
He was a member of two Benson and Hedges Cup winning Hampshire sides and scored the boundary which enabled them to clinch the NatWest Trophy in 1991.
