Basin Reserve pitch vandalised
Last Thursday evening, vandals dug up the Basin Reserve wicket (host to the ODI #2 vs WI). They also spread gravel and metallic debris on the outfield. The holes on the pitch were dug through the covers and were only discovered yesterday (Monday). Since they were dug on the actual strip to be used for tomorrow`s game, and on a good length, the vandals clearly knew what they were doing. What made it worse was that rain damaged the exposed parts of the wicket. The pitch has been repaired, and hair dryers were being used to dry out the wet patches.
Apparently the game is not threatened.
The Basin is not locked overnight and, since Saturday, a security guard has been posted. The guard caught four people trying to lift the covers and noted four more on top of the light tower.
