Ben Oliver named new ICC EAP Regional Development Officer

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the appointment of Ben Oliver to the position of East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Regional Development Officer

Melbourne - The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the appointment of Ben Oliver to the position of East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Regional Development Officer.

Mr Oliver is currently a Regional Cricket Manager with Cricket Victoria and will begin his new role with the ICC in early October.

Mr Oliver brings considerable knowledge and expertise to the position having enjoyed a distinguished involvement in cricket on a number of levels, including being a former first class cricketer with Victoria and Tasmania. He has extensive experience in cricket education and player pathway development, and has also had a high performance coaching role with the Victorian Institute of Sport Cricket Program in recent years.

Mr Oliver will report to the ICC EAP Regional Development Manager, Matt Weisheit.

"Following an extensive recruitment process that attracted several outstanding international and local Australian candidates, I am delighted that a person of Ben's passion, skills and experience will by joining the ICC Development team," said Mr Weisheit.

"Cricket activity in East Asia and the Pacific has grown significantly in recent years, and this role will be crucial in the continued strengthening of the game in the region's 10 ICC member countries. In addition to his obvious cricket credentials Ben has outstanding organisational and administrative skills which will be required in this varied role. We are sure Ben will be a terrific asset for the EAP Region," added Mr Weisheit.

Mr Oliver said,

"I am delighted to be joining the ICC Development Program. This position provides a great opportunity to further develop my skills and work in an environment that I am very passionate about. There is considerable activity taking place in the East Asia - Pacific region, and I'm looking forward to applying my skills and experience to assist the continued strengthening of cricket in all regional countries.

"Cricket has been a constant in my life and the challenge of growing the sport in the region and making a real difference to the development of the game is a motivating force," he added.

The 10 ICC member countries of the East Asia - Pacific region are PNG, Fiji Japan, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Indonesia, South Korea, Tonga, Samoa and the Philippines. Over 33,000 participants are now actively involved in cricket activities within this region, compared to less than 13,000 in 2001.
