Skipper Hrishekesh Kanitkar won the toss and elected to bat. Veteran opener Surendra Bhave and Kanitkar piled up unbeaten centuries during the day. Dherraj Jadhav (20) was dismissed in the 25th over. His dismissal brought Kanitkar to the crease. The duo piled on an unbeaten 194-run partnership off 65.2 overs for the second wicket. Kanitkar's 195-ball innings had 17 boundaries and one six, whereas Bhave was more patient in his approach taking 274 deliveries for his innings. He hit 13 boundaries and a six. By stumps, Bhave was unbeaten on 100 and Kanitkar had made 117.
