Kaushal Lokuarachchi blasted a quickfire 45 as Bloomfield Cricket Club knocked off the target in the final of the Premier League Tournament in Colombo. Sanath Jayasuriya and Ian Daniel had got them to a good start as they set out in pursuit of 176. Niroshan Bandaratilleke, the left-arm spinner, grabbed three quick wickets and threatened to engineer a collapse, but Lokuarachchi would have none of it.

Colts had surrendered the advantage on the first day, after being asked to bat first, when they lasted only 47 overs and made a modest 175. Dulip Liyanage's 76 averted an abject collapse as Dharshana Gamage's medium pace pierced through the middle order. The second innings followed a similar script, with Romesh Kaluwitharana nursing the frail batting this time. Bloomfield too had their batting worries in their first innings, but a breezy 81 from Shanuka Dissanayake nudged them past the Colts first-innings total.

Kumar Dharmasana's 6 for 66 in the match and Jayasuriya's fine spell on the second day (4 for 46) were also crucial factors in deciding the ultimate result.
