The defeats have cost England six rating points and that has dropped it to eighth spot, one point below the West Indies, which has leapfrogged it in the list.

England has now won just five of its last 19 ODIs, with successive series losses to Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, and that has seen it shed 12 rating points since the start of December.

The contrast with the buoyant Sri Lankans could not be greater. Mahela Jayawardene's side has gained four ratings points through its run of wins and although it has not improved on its sixth position, it is now just two points short of fifth-placed India.

If it can continue its winning momentum in its upcoming home tri-series against India and second-placed South Africa then it has the chance to make real progress up the table as it is only five rating points behind Pakistan, in third spot.

Before that, it finishes its tour of Europe with two ODIs against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Tuesday 4 July and Thursday 6 July.

Sri Lanka now has three players in the top 20 of the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen with Kumar Sangakkara 10th, the rejuvenated Sanath Jayasuriya up seven places to 15th and Jayawardene rising 12 spots to 20th.

Jayasuriya, Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga each scored two hundreds in the ODI series with England and Tharanga is rewarded for his form with a rise of 38 places in the rankings to 44th position.

England has two batsmen inside that top 20, with Kevin Pietersen, who missed the final two matches of the series through injury, in eighth and Marcus Trescothick, his side's leading run-scorer in the five matches, up three spots to 16th place.

England's acting captain Andrew Strauss dropped five places during the series and now finds himself in 33rd spot.

Muttiah Muralidaran (11th) and Chaminda Vaas (13th) are Sri Lanka's two representatives in the top 20 of the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers, but further down the list the touring side has several players making positive moves.

The leading wicket-taker on either side, Lasith Malinga, who picked up 13 wickets, rises a massive 77 places to 50th spot, while leg-spinner Malinga Bandara is up 19 places to joint 60th position, alongside New Zealand's Andre Adams. Farveez Maharoof is up one place to 26th.

England's leading bowler in the ratings is Stephen Harmison, a non-mover in 15th place, while below him are the injured Lancashire duo of Andrew Flintoff (18th) and James Anderson (23rd).

Flintoff remains second in the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI all-rounders behind Shaun Pollock of South Africa. Jayasuriya is Sri Lanka's top player in that list, up three places to seventh spot.

Australia remains the leading side in the LG ICC ODI Championship table, 13 rating points clear of second-placed South Africa and a further five points ahead of Pakistan, with New Zealand fourth and India in fifth position.

Adam Gilchrist, the Australia vice-captain, remains the leading ODI batsman, ahead of Ramnaresh Sarwan of the West Indies, Australia's Ricky Ponting and Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India.

The bowling list is topped by Pollock, clear of New Zealand's Shane Bond, Glenn McGrath of Australia and another New Zealander, spinner Daniel Vettori.
