Boje Comes up trumps for SA Academy
A tidy spell of bowling from South African one day international left-arm spinner Nicky Boje did the trick for the Plascon Academy side when they beat the touring New Zealand Academy by 27 runs in a limited-overs outing at centurion park yesterday.
Boje's line and length stranded the Kiwis during the crucial middle overs of their innings, and they were well short of the victory target when they were dismissed for 166. Boje's 3/25 in 10 overs of accurate bowling put pressure on the visitor's batting.
The Kiwi's score was in reply to the SA Academy's untidy performance of 193/8 off their 50 overs.
At one stage Daniel Vittori and Andrew Penn threatened to take the game away from the South Africans during a 64-run partnership for the seventh wicket. The rescue act was shot down when Vittori became the 5th LBW victim of the innings.
Although the touring team's management of Dale Hadlee and Steve Rixon have not lodged a complaint about Thursday's umpiring, the UCB need to take a serious look at those appointed to matches of this nature before serious accusations are levelled at the standard of umpiring in such games.
