Bowlers held the upper hand in the latest rounds of the domestic cricket competitions played over the weekend of 10-11 February 2007. HKCC's Phil Pemberton grabbed a six-wicket haul whilst Robert Tucker, Kevin McNamara, Mohammad Ayub and Ghulam Mustafa each picked up five. On the other side of the ledger, Todd Hoare and Butt Hussain were the only batsmen to register centuries.
2006-07 HKCA Saturday League
Conditions were hazy but dry for round nineteen of the Saturday League that saw two derby matches played at Kowloon Cricket Club and Hong Kong Cricket Club.
Todd Hoare notched an even 100 for Nomads as they thrashed their fellow club-mates Witherers by 173 runs at the Wong Ngai Chung Gap Road ground. Batting first, Nomads hit an impressive 287-5 from their 35 overs with Andrew Swan 45, Toby Brown 57 and Adam Goodman 32 not out contributing to the Nomads cause. Robert Tucker then grabbed five wickets as Witherers were skittled for just 114 in reply.
Across at Jordan Road, Saracens were looking to turn their season around against Taratrs in a KCC derby match. But they didn't count on Mohammad Ayub, who grabbed five wickets to restrict Saracens to just 119-9 from their 35 overs. In reply, Ghulam Mustafa scored 31 and Shkawat Ali hit an unbeaten 40 as Tartars reached 123 and a comfortable six-wicket victory.
On the Po Kong Village Road Number One ground, St George's upset Lamma by 9 runs. Batting first, St Georges posted a very good score of 235-9 from their 35 overs with Vaibhav Totla top scoring with 68 and Vicky Niaz hit 52 while Kevin McNamara grabbed five wickets for Lamma. In reply, Lamma were restricted to 226-8, despite the efforts of Rizwan Sattar (68), Leigh Powell (31), Butt Hussain (36) and Ian Beck (39). Vaibhav Totla was the best of the St Georges' bowlers, claiming four wickets.
On the Number Two ground, CCC failed to break their duck for the season as they slipped to another loss to Centaurs. CCC batted first and they reached 188-8 from their 35 overs with Mukhtar Ahmed scoring 62 and Neil McDonald hitting 42. For Centaurs, Neel Kumara and Keith Frith grabbed three wickets apiece. Centaurs' run chase was led by Harper who hit 58 while Richard Cauldwell scored 44. Mukhtar Ahmed picked up three wickets but his efforts were in vain as CCC as Centaurs eased to a four-wicket victory.
At Sandy Bay, home team Hong Kong University scored a seven wicket victory over the visiting Gap Ramblers. Gap Ramblers scored 229-7 from their 35 overs with the maintain contributions coming from Gillard (34), Nick Way (45), Matt Thwaites (39) and Hamish Stuart who finished unbeaten on 39. HKU had little trouble chasing down the total as they reached 233-3 with Bruce Abernathy continuing his solid form with 72 while Phil Glenwright brought the students home with an undefeated 92.
SCC Vampires returned to winning ways as they beat Police by eight wickets in a match played at Abeerdeen's Police Training College. Police were dismissed for 173 with Ijaz Mir scoring 40, while Prashant picked up four wickets. Rajesh Nanda then hit 92 and Prashant scored an unbeaten 51 as Police eased to victory for the loss of just two wickets.
At Mission Road, LSW Warriors maintained their unbeaten record with a 38-run victory over Hong Kong Under-19s. LSW Warriors batted first and they posted 191-5 from their 35 overs with Jawaid Iqbal and Azhar Illahi both hitting 31 while Zain Abbas top scored 43. In reply, the Hong Kong Under 19's were dismissed for 153 with Robbie Bacon hitting 40.

2006-07 HKCA Sunday League
An early morning shower made under foot conditions slippery when play got underway in round 19 of the Sunday League competition.
At Kowloon Cricket Club, a keen match-up between KCC rivals Templars and Infidels fizzled in a match that lasted less than 50 overs. Templars were routed in 30.1 overs for just 97 runs with Shkawat Ali the only batsman to offer any resistance with an unbeaten 40. Chief destroyer was Ghulam Mustafa who claimed 5-48 while Manoj Cheruparambil grabbed three wickets for just two runs in a brief 2.1 over spell. Manoj then smacked 44 runs as Infidels scored 100-2 in just 17.3 overs to grab maximum points from the match.
At Hong Kong Cricket Club, Butt Hussain returned to the ground were in 2004 he famously hit an 311 not out in a Saturday League match and forced the following day's match to be cancelled on grounds of public safety, and once again he peppered the boundaries as he hit an unbeaten 124 for Pakistan Association as they raced to a total of 274 from just 37 overs. Michael Jamieson and G Brooks-Bank picked up four wickets each for Wanderers. In reply, Todd Hoare score 89 runs and Imran Idrees hit 40 but their efforts were in vain as Wanderers were dismissed for 225 from 41 overs, with Najeeb Amar claiming four wickets.
The best match of the weekend was played at Mission Road where Vagabonds beat Millennium in a high scoring thriller. Batting first on a wicket that has seen many low scores this season, Millennium posted a massive 307 all out from 47 overs. Liaqat top scored with 91 while Yasir Khan hit 63 and Vicky Niaz 48. Sher Lama and Prashant picked up four wickets each for Vagabonds. The huge total did not daunt the Vagabonds batting line-up and they set about their task with agusto. Mukul Malik led from the front with a hard hitting 92, while Prakash Chakravarti scored 51 and Mukhtar Ahmed finished unbeaten on 61 not out as Vagabonds reached their target in 48.2 overs with three wickets to spare.
Across town at Po Kong Village Road, Scorpions beat Sri Lanka Club by 67 runs in another high scoring match. Tim Smart top scored with 66 as Scorpions posted an imposing 296-8 from their 50 overs while Toby Brown also hit 59. For Sri Lanka Club, Suresh grabbed three wickets while Panny claimed four. Phil Pemberton claimed six wickets as the Sri Lanka Club batsmen posted a valiant chase. Panny hit 47 runs and Neel Kumara scored 54 but ultimately their efforts weren't enough as the Sri Lanka Club was eventually dismissed for 229 in 40 overs. Will Nevin also picked up three wickets for Scorpions.

In the latest match of the HKCA Women's Cricket League, LSW scored an easy nine-wicket victory over HKCC Cavaliers at Po Kong Village Road. The HKCC team was dismissed for 66 runs with Keenu Gill claiming four wickets and Shaminda getting three. LSW had no trouble with the chase, reaching 67 for the loss of just one wicket.
