Victorian Bushrangers captain, Cameron White, has been called into the Australian squad as Hogg's replacement.

Hogg experienced sharp pain and locking in the joint during yesterday's practice session at Telstra Dome, and diagnostic scans taken earlier today revealed the West Australian has developed a torn cartilage.

He will return to Perth this evening and will undergo surgery to repair the problem tomorrow, after which he is expected to be sidelined for anywhere between three to six weeks.

Australian Team Physiotherapist, Errol Alcott said: "Following yesterday's session, it was clear that Brad was in pain and limited in his movements.

"MRI scans taken earlier today have revealed the cartilage tear, but we are confident that with the correct surgery, he will make a full recovery."

Brad Hogg said: "I'm extremely disappointed to miss out on this series, and although every match I play for Australia is special, the upcoming games at Telstra Dome have extra significance as they are against the world's best.

"I may never have an opportunity like this again, to be a part of such a prestigious event.

"I am confident though that I can make a speedy recovery from this injury and get into the season ahead."
