2007-08 HKCA Saturday League

Biggest score of the day was hit by HKU who posted an impressive 309-5 against Lamma. Martin Sabine (51), Bruce Abernathy (80) and T Bax (33) all made useful contributions while Butt Hussain smote an unbeaten 102 against his former team mates. In reply, Lamma scored 204 with Jonathan Seifman hitting 45 and Tauseef Bukhari 38, while Tahir Khan claimed 5-31 for HKU as University ran out winners by 105 runs.

Reigning Saturday League champions LSW Warriors got their 2007-08 campaign off to a flying start when they thrashed Centaurs by 186 runs at PKVR2. LSW Warriors batted first and posted a total of 267-8 from their 35 overs, with Munir Dar scoring 96 runs while Azhar illahi hit 40 and Suresh Pandey scored 30. Centaurs were then dismissed for just 81 as Zafaran Ali claimed 5-15 and Nadeem Ahmed picked up 4-19. Neil was the only batsman to offer any resistance with 43.

Nomads had an equally impressive victory in their first outing of the season as they beat St George's by 171 runs at Hong Kong Cricket Club. Travis Smithson (36) and Watkins (48) led the scoring as Nomads racked up a score of 269-9 from their 35 overs despite the best efforts of Dawood Waqar who claimed 5-54. In reply, St George's had no answer to the Nomads bowling and they were dismissed for just 98. Iftikhar Ahmed was the best of the St George's batsmen with 30 while Michael Jamieson claimed three wickets for Nomads.

Gap Ramblers scored a 34-run victory when they visited Crusaders at Kowloon Cricket Club. Gap Ramblers posted 208-5 from their 35 overs with Shane Sibraa hitting 45 and Courtney Kruger scoring 39, whilst Mark Kratzmann finished unbeaten on 97. In reply, Crusaders were dismissed for 174 with Anthony Barnet scoring 101 and Maonj Cheruparambil hitting 38. For Gap Ramblers, Chris Gillard claimed 4-60 while Harold Turner and Mark Kratmann claimed three wickets apiece.

Across town at Mission Road, Laguna Gully inflicted a 66-run loss on Tartars. Batting first, Laguna Gully scored 188-9 from their 35 overs with Abhishek Desai scoring 46 and Prakash Chakravarti hitting 36. For Tartars, Ghulam Mustafa claimed 4-47. A disappointing effort by Tartars saw them dismissed for just 122 in reply. Hong Kong Under-19 Ashish Gadhia top scored with 44 while Anand Ramaswany claimed 4-30 for Laguna Gully.

In a poor day for KCC teams, Police handed out a 49 run beating of Saracens at the Police Training College. Police scored a modest 182-6 from their 35 overs with Muntiaz Khan and Ijaz Mir both scoring 39 while Ranjit Singh finished unbeaten on 35. Ravi Sujanani was the best of the Saracens bowlers, claiming 3-29 from his 7 over spell. In reply, Saracens were restricted to 133-7 with Matt Collins hitting 31 and Jonathan King scoring 40.

2007-08 HKCA Women's League

Two matches were played in the HKCA Women's League with both HKCC teams coming away with comfortable victories.

At Hong Kong Cricket Club, the HKCC Willow Wielders completed a 10-wicket victory over LSW. Keenu Gill was the only LSW batter to score any runs as she finished on 32 out of a total of 43. Marge Cheung was the chief destroyer, claiming 4-12. The Willow Wielders had little trouble as they eased to victory without losing a wicket.

The HKCC Cavaliers scored an equally emphatic victory over Sri Lanka CC in a match played at PKVR2. Sri Lanka CC could only manage a total of 64 as the Cavaliers cruised to an eight wicket victory.
